“Shadow of the Mountain” is the long-awaited continuation of one of the most amazing novels of the early 21st century! “Shantaram” was a confession refracted in artistic form of a man who managed to get out of the abyss and survive, which sold four million copies around the world (of which half a million were in Russia) and earned enthusiastic comparisons with the works of the best writers of modern times, from Melville to Hemingway. The venerable Jonathan Carroll wrote: “A person who is not touched by Shantaram to the depths of his soul either has no heart or is dead... Shantaram is the Arabian Nights of our century. This is a priceless gift for anyone who loves to read." And finally, G. D. Roberts wrote a continuation of the story of Lin, nicknamed Shantaram, who escaped from an Australian maximum security prison and became a counterfeiter and smuggler in Bombay. So, two years have passed since Lin lost the two people closest to him: Khaderbhai, a mafia leader who died in the Afghan mountains, and Karla, a mysterious, coveted beauty who married a Bombay media tycoon. Now Lin has to fulfill the last assignment given to him by Khaderbhai, win the trust of the sage living on the mountain, save his head in the uncontrollably flaring conflict of the new mafia leaders, but most importantly - find love and faith.

About the Developer

Gregory David Roberts (1952) – Australian writer, author of the world bestseller “Shantaram” and its sequel “Shadow of the Mountain”. As a young man, Roberts was a talented student and a budding writer. But everything changed after his wife filed for divorce and took custody of their daughter. Roberts began to have problems with drugs and with the law. He committed a number of armed robberies. Roberts was even nicknamed the “gentleman bandit” because he used a dummy gun instead of a real weapon, and invariably appeared at crime scenes in a three-piece suit. In addition, according to Roberts, he only robbed companies that were well insured. Roberts was caught and sentenced to 19 years in Pentridge prison in Australia, from which he escaped in 1980. Once free, he went on a journey, visiting New Zealand, Asia, Africa and Europe. He spent 10 years in India, where he founded a free medical clinic for the poor in Bombay. After being re-arrested in 1990, Roberts spent 6 years in prison. It was then that he began working on Shantaram, which is partly based on events from the writer's life. After Gregory's release, David Roberts finished the novel. Now he lives in several countries, works on new projects, and also composes music. Currently, preparations are underway for filming a series based on the novel “Shantaram” for the Apple TV streaming platform. Roberts himself wrote the script for the film adaptation. The main role in the film will be played by Charlie Hunnam, known for the films “The Sword of King Arthur,” “The Moth” and “The Gentlemen.”
